Betty Your Questions About Universe Font

Betty asks…

How much would a quote tattoo on my ribcage be?

I want to get this tattooed on my ribcage: “Before I was given the greatest, weapon in the Universe, before I journeyed to the stars– My dad gave me the power to do anything. He told me I could be whatever I wanted to be. -Hal Jordan” next summer, but I don’t know how much it would cost. I would get it in small comic book font. Any ideas?

Astronomy answers:

Being only 4 words less than the one I got going down my ribcage-hip, mine was around $360, so somewhere around there, assuming your artist will put it the same size so it will be visible for years to come, and mine is in a simple handwritten font, cost varies from place to place though, my artist charges $120/hr

Michael asks…

What religion or philosophy would be best for me?

I believe in a god, but not the traditional one. I don’t know if the god created the universe or not. I think we all have god in us. I think all the major religious figures were all trying to say the same message. I font believe in a hell I believe in a conscious state of oneness with everything after death. I believe the main goals of life should be peace, therefore non violence is neccessary. I think god is more of the reality or truth in the world and not like an old guy. Thanks a lot

Astronomy answers:

I think you’re kinda like john lennon. He believed in god but he didnt think god was a old guy that lives in the sky somewhere. He thought it was somthing that lived within us, and i mostly agree with that.

Atoms in the universe…?

I was told that Stephen Hawking said the universe contains 10^80 atoms. By using microsoft word, font size one, i figured out if you print double sided with font size 1, you can fit the figure “1″ onto the page 1406532 times by printing double sided… now, 10^80/1046532 = 7.10968538 × 10^73… does anybody know if this many sheets of paper could ever exist at one time, because if so it would prove the theory wrong.
Also, i believe by proving that even a millionth of this number (would be 7.10968538 x 10^67) would prove it wrong because im assuming that there are at least 1000000 atoms in a piece of paper

Astronomy answers:

Well as one person previously said your assumption of atoms in paper is way off just to prove it I am going to be silly a piece of A4 paper on average weighs 5 grams. I am going to assume that paper is made from lead (obviously not) because it has a high mass number therefore this will be an underestimate of the number of atoms in paper…
Pb= 207.2

So 5/207.2=0.0241312741 mols
using Avogadros constant we know there is 6.0221*10^23 atoms in a mol
so
0.0241312741*6.0221*10^23= 1.45320946*10^22

So apparently if a sheet of paper was made out of lead… It would have a load more atoms than you predicted

As a sheet of paper is made up of elements and molecules with a lower molar constant than Lead there will be more atoms so yeah gross under estimate mate icon biggrin Your Questions About Universe Font

Adding to this assuming we use what carbon as the main base as that is what paper is mainly made up with you get that there is 2.506910332*10^23 atoms in a sheet of paper

Thus you need
10^80/2.506910332*10^23=3.988973946*10^56 sheets of paper

Using the dimensions of paper and number of sheets this works out to be a volume of
0.2159*0.2974*0.00018*3.988973946*10^56=4.610280093*10^51 m^3

The radius of earth is roughly:6378100 m
the distance between the earth surface and edge of atmosphere is roughly:36532 m

So to get the volume in between the earth’s surface and edge of atmosphere you use two spheres and with some mathematical jiggery pokery you got the volume to be:
1.878246*10^19m^3

As you can see the amount of paper needed won’t fit inside the worlds atmosphere let alone be on planet earth at once with enough oxygen to breathe and space to move icon smile Your Questions About Universe Font

How do you create this photo effect?

Hey there everything, good evening.
I was wondering if anyone on here could give some insight on how to create this photo effect,
the image is here, http://scienceblogs.com/universe/Universe-Header.jpg
It looks like the font is placed twice with some sort of static effect. What programs should I use and effects?

Thanks a bunch to all insight!

Astronomy answers:

Image appears a though color printer heads were not aligned as effect,

http://www.goisi.com/partners/webhelp/operation/start-up_procedure.htm#5_8

http://www.grosse.is-a-geek.com/pcplus/hd254sd/hd254.html

with pencil sketch background,

http://drawsketch.about.com/od/learntodraw/ss/pencilshading.htm

so you could make text, in black,
then make three layers with each color, magenta, blue, yellow,
then shift layers sideways to mis-align colors
use screen overlay, create black background, hide black text,
if not cmyk, create blue and red layers as well

http://www.m-graphix.com/featured_articles/RGB_vs_CMYK.html

or mis-align printer colors to print off center, not advised, or use old printer,
